Baby Hints & Tips

It’s Snowing at The Hunter Valley!

If you thought that the Hunter Valley had little to offer for families and it was all about the vino, you are so wrong! Annually Hunter Valley Gardens hosts Snow Time In The Garden and a valley within the gardens is turned into every child’s winter dream.

It’s perfect for younger kids who have never seen snow as large patches of snow are available for making snowmen, having snowball fights or even making snow angels. The snowy fun isn’t just for the kids so make sure you get in on the fun and create your own snow creature.

Bring your own equipment

Remember to bring your own shovels, buckets and spades to help as they aren’t provided. If you’re keen to make a snowman like we were, bring your own carrot nose too!

Ice-skating

You can ice-skate with the kids or watch them on the ice while you enjoy a piping hot chocolate. They even provide penguins for younger children who need that extra bit of assistance on the ice. The ice-skating sessions run by a booking system and do cost extra so remember to book a spot so you don’t miss out.

Icy Toboggan

If you’re more adventurous try the icy toboggan! My little man braved this slope and was by far not the youngest to have a slide. The lines for the toboggan move quickly so you can have a few turns.

Carnival rides

Within Snow Time In The Gardens there are also loads of carnival fun rides for young and old to enjoy such as the ferris wheel, the carousel and of course the kids jumping castles.

I would recommend this getaway as it is just a few hours out of Sydney and there’s plenty of accommodation in the Hunter Valley to turn it into a weekend away.

For parents it’s a trip to the snow without having to chain up the car or dealing with skiers and snowboarders zooming past you and your little ones.

It’s a great day trip for the family, and the price includes access to the rest of the gardens, so it truly is a full day of fun.

Top Tips for a day in the Snow Time in The Gardens:

  • Bring spare clothes for the kids – they will get wet and no matter what will need a change of clothes
  • Waterproof gloves or snow gloves help a great deal when making a snowman or having a snowball fight
  • It gets pretty windy so remember your scarves, beanies and jackets
