I am not much of a drinker, however, when I was pregnant and my children were small, I did occasionally feel a bit like I was missing out when the champagne corks began to pop at special times of the year.
Of course, it wasn’t the alcohol I was missing (okay, maybe sometimes it was) but the sense of sharing something special, something grown up and celebratory. Before long, I decided that I had lots of delicious and perhaps fancy options to indulge in, I just had to be a little creative.
First of all, the glass you pick for your chosen beverage is of utmost importance. Get out the fine crystal, why not? Make sure your glass is sparkling clean and fill it up with ice and thin slices of lemon, lime and orange. Gather some colourful and fun straws and I promise you’ll feel that party sparkle in no time!
Here are some of the drinks I loved and still enjoy when the occasion calls for something a little more special than a simple glass of water.
MY FAVOURITE COMBINATIONS
- Mineral water, ice + lemon
- Cranberry juice, soda water + lime
- Chilled coconut water, ice, lemon + mint
- Soda water, fresh orange juice + mint
- Fresh grapefruit juice + ice
- Fruit punch
- Iced tea
I hope these ideas inspire a party mood because no one has to miss out on a celebration, especially mums!
