We asked our friends at Travelwithtots to share their list of destinations for the best family holiday in Australia.
1) Gold Coast, QLD
One of Australia’s favourite family places mainly because of its theme parks but also its beautiful beaches, rainforest walks and wildlife parks. There is plenty to keep the whole family busy and a must for any adventure family holiday!
2) Alice Springs, NT
The red centre has some wonderful spots that will be enjoyed by older children who will appreciate the beauty of Uluru (Ayers Rock), explore Kata Tjuta and Kings Canyon, enjoy learning about Aboriginal Art and Culture and embrace life in the outback by trying bush tucker and being on the lookout for crocs!
3) Great Ocean Road, VIC
Take the breathtaking coastal drive from Lorne to Apollo Bay, visit the 12 apostles, Grampians National Park with fabulous woodland walks and waterfalls. Otway Fly treetop walk will be the highlight for the whole family to enjoy and of course a visit to Famous Bells Beach is a must!
4) Broome, WA
This tropical seaside town features the world famous Cable Beach, where you can enjoy the view from the back of a camel. The kids will be amazed to see dinosaur footprints at Ganthcaume Point, enjoy a family day out on a pearl lugger and in the evening enjoy the Staircase to the Moon (seasonal, Mar to Oct) or unwind under the stars at Australia’s oldest outdoor cinema.
5) Kangaroo Island, SA
As the name suggests, this island offers a fantastic wildlife experience. Watch the seals surf the waves, spot the sleepy koalas and observe the echidnas, platypus and kangaroos all in their natural settings.
6) Hobart, TAS
Entice the kids to Tassie with a visit to the Cadbury Factory then work off all the excess sugar at Zoodoo Fun Park, The Train Park, Richmond Maze or Bonorong Wildlife Park. Dead Man’s Gold has fantastic hands on exhibits just for kids! Kingston Beach is a beautiful spot, historic Port Arthur is about an hour and half drive away and for a spot of shopping explore the interesting stalls at Salamanca market on a Saturday morning.
7) Phillip Island, VIC
This fantastic island has an abundance of activities to cater for everyone’s taste. Get back to nature and experience the penguins, koalas, wildlife parks and the costal scenery. Entertain & Baffle yourselves at A Maz ’N Things with its illusions, mazes and puzzles. The activities are endless, be it a game of mini golf, ten pin bowling on a rainy day or kayaking for the more adventurous, it’s all here at Phillip Island.
8) Sunshine Coast, QLD
Home to the world’s largest sand island, Fraser Island is great for a 4WD safari experience. Along this beautiful coast line is a world of adventure too – visit the Australia zoo, Underwater World, the big pineapple and Aussie world.
9) Coffs Harbour, NSW
Coffs Harbour offers plenty of great family holiday resorts. Visit Timbertown Heritage village, the Pet Porpoise Pool and take a night tour to experience the Koalas at Pine Creek National Park. Enjoy an afternoon of thrills on the rides at the Big Banana or a family go-kart challenge at Raleigh International Raceway. A great family destination where you can sit back and relax or have adventurous days out!
10) Canberra, ACT
There are an abundance of holiday parks for camping enthusiasts in ACT. Many are located close to national attractions, or in National Parks. So get organised and enjoy a fun filled camping holiday, a great bonding experience for the family.
