Caveman Lamb: 10 Minute Australia Day Recipe

Australia Day – it’s sunshine, beers, celebrations… not hours and hours in the kitchen.  This is the ultimate show stopper Australia Day Recipe – the centrepiece of your table where people don’t have to sit at a table to eat (ideal for “backyard cricket pitch dining!)  Caveman lamb – a hearty lamb meal that can be eaten as finger food (well fist food).  Perfect for a Australia Day revelry and you’ll spend no time in the kitchen!

10 Minute Australia Day Lamb Recipe

Caveman Lamb – Easy Slow Cooked Lamb Shanks

This super yummy wow factor slow cooker lamb recipe takes ten minutes prep all done the day before – giving you more time for beers and mates on Australia Day

Ingredients:

  • 1 lamb shank per guest
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tin tomatoes
  • 1 cup beef stock
  • 4 tsp rosemary
  • 1/2 cup red wine (optional)
  • Any veggies you’d like to add – halved potatoes, small onions and large cut carrots are best.

Method:

  • Place any veggies on the bottom of the slow cooker
  • Add everything else
  • Cook on low for 4-6 hours or until meat begins to “fall away from bone”
  • Refrigerate in the slow cooker pot overnight

To Serve:

On Australia Day, scrape any fat from the top of the pot and replace in slow cooker on high for one hour.  Take pieces of aluminium foil and fold into strips.  Wrap these around the base of the shank to form a “handle”. Serve handle side up for caveman style finger food.
