Winter is here: All the best Winter Festivals in NSW

We used to say ‘Winter is coming’, but it is well and truly here. With the temperatures dropping and school holidays coming up, it’s time to embrace the freeze! Here’s a round-up of the best winter festivals for families.

Bondi Winter Magic

Visit the Bondi Pavillion for the famous beachside ice-skating rink, Bondi Vista ferris wheel for a sea-gull view of the beach and winter festival. Aside from the fun on the ice-rink, watch award winning comedy, theatre and circus acts at the Pavillion or simply enjoy a hot chocolate by the seaside.

Icetopia – Prariewood

Fairfield City Council’s Aquatopia transforms into an winter wonderland for Icetopia! Complete with snow, festive lighting and food. Rug up with the whole family and enjoy the frozen fun in South-West Sydney. The cost is $11 for the first skater, $16 for two skaters and $22 for three skaters. Themed skating aids will also be available for hire free of charge for younger skaters. Six ice-skating sessions will run per day so book ahead.

Winterlight -Parramatta

Parramatta’s Prince Alfred Square is transformed in Winterlight, a an open-air ice-skating rink, illuminated Ferris wheel, carnival rides, night markets, cabaret shows, live music, alpine food village, interactive workshops, themed nights and more. Winterlight is in it’s 9th year and will bring Morphology this year. An accessible, tactile art activation made of LED wires!

Bathurst Winter Festival

Layer up and head into the Winter Playground and watch Bathurst come alive through colour and music. Projections will fly across Court House walls, change the colour of plants in the Fernery and alter the ground you walk on through Machattie Park. On Saturday nights (6 and 13 July) the park will be packed with craft beer, mulled wine and gourmet eats. Carnival rides will move you through space, down slides and have you bumping into others on your voyage through the festival. Kids ice skating sessions will run on: Monday 9 July at 10am, Friday 12 July at 9am and Monday 15 July at 10am.

Snow Time in the Gardens – Hunter Valley

Snow Time in the Garden is back for another fun, icy and exciting event. Visit the Hunter Valley Gardens for a great family and friends day out! Explore the giant ice skating rink, slide down the mega ice toboggan or build a snowman in their very own Snow Play Zone!
