Ending Bedroom Trial and Error

chartYou may recall a month back our resident writer declared that she’d bought ‘science to the bedroom’ in the hope of expediting her journey to conception? Here’s an update on her experiences using Natural Cycles for temping, charting & trying to fall pregnant.

Firstly, news! Okay, stay calm we are not expecting, yet. But I’m charting like a woman obsessed. Would you judge me if I told you this process is a little addictive? I don’t care if you are, because you know what? It’s awesome. I love the little graph, the information at my fingertips and hey – I love not having to have lets-make-a-baby-crappy-sex every single day.

(Husband if you are reading this I did NOT mean that. Okay I did. I’m sorry.)

So, a bit over 4 weeks into using Natural Cycles here’s how it’s all working out.

natural cycles thermometerThe measuring thing – it’s totally easy!

Every morning I wake up and before I even wonder ‘what day is it?’ I do the measurement. It’s really easy to do, it’s like a regular thermometer in your mouth (used under the tongue) and I get the day’s number and then record it in the iPhone app.

It’s important to do the measurement first thing so you get the truest possible reading, that took a little bit of getting used to – I’m not the wake up all sunshine and roses type – but now I’m in the swing of it I do it on autopilot.

Re the recording the information – it is so convenient and easy! I love technology, I totally adore that the data is stored in my phone. It’s completely private and I’ll never lose it like a scrap of paper or get confused by my own notes (highly likely if scrawled down at 6am!)

We’re scheduling sexy time like baby making pros!

All that measuring has now left me with wonderful, science based data that tells us when to get our baby-making-loving on. For me, this has been a really positive change. I know exactly when it’s prime trying-to-conceive days and its much less pressure than the scattergun approach we were working on before.

I don’t think my hubs would admit that he likes having less sex more but I think he actually is. I swear when I nudged him last time on our 9th day on the run and said ‘Ummm, it’s baby time’ he actually groaned and reached for the remote. You likely don’t want to know this much about our sex lives but things in the bedroom are better. And I’m emotionally happy, as we’ve got some strategy under our belts as well. (See what I did there? Haha)

natural cycles chartI’ve now got a collection of lovely, magical data that my obstetrician is going to be so, so impressed by.

As you may know we are now 12 months into our trying to conceive journey. Is it dire straights yet? No.

But am I itching to be pregnant? Yes.

Our obstetrician advised us at the 6-month mark to come back in 12 months if we weren’t pregnant by then. This month we’ll be heading back to see him again but with a collection of accurate, informative data that will help him to identify any issues and also understand my body and my cycles better.

I’m actually excited to be going to the appointment because I know he’ll be really thrilled with the data I’ve collated for him and I know this kind of quality information is a step in the right direction.

So, that’s it from me for now. I’m loving – did I say LOVING – my Natural Cycles charting. It’s easy to use, it’s brought strategy to our baby-making and it was really affordable for us.  I’m not pregnant yet, but I hope to be soon. I’ll keep you updated.
